Patient Stories

Inspired by a true story, names and details have been changed to preserve the identity of the patient and confidentiality.

Fahdi, a 64 year-old was referred to Emirates Rehab and Homecarefor rehabilitation.

In addition to hypertension among other conditions, he was bed-ridden, malnourished, aphasic and had breathing difficulty.

Fahdi underwent rehabilitation which included physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech language therapy.

Due to cardiopulmonary problems, the rehabilitation program focused on treating Fahdi patiently with gradual and cautious improvement expectations.

The plan focused on specific core areas:

  • Strength and endurance exercises
  • Improving the ability to stand and gait training
  • Improving balance and coordination
  • Improving ADL to prevent falls

As a result of this personalized attention and comprehensive therapy, he has progressed immensely.

He has achieved sitting balance and can now stand/walk on his own for 20-30 minutes at a time with a walker and assistance.

Endurance, speech, swallowing and appetite have all improved as well. Plus the hypertension is better controlled.
